Poppy seed oil, also known as INCI name Papaver Somniferum seed oil, is cold-pressed extracted from dried poppy seeds, yielding a light yellow liquid carrying a characteristic flavor profile and aroma similar to ground poppy seeds. Bulk poppy seed oil, or commonly written as poppyseed, is used not only for culinary applications, but in cosmetic and personal-care formulations. Its naturally high fat content along with antioxidant properties and the fatty acids linoleic, oleic, and palmitic acid, make this virgin organic oil a desired ingredient in a wide range of topical skin and hair formulations. In addition to the personal-care industry, poppyseed oil is used throughout the Art industry in oil painting.
